Yakima, Washington is the county seat of Yakima County. Yakima, population 91,067 (2010 census), enjoys an idyllic location in the Upper Yakima Valley, southeast of Mount Rainier National Park in central Washington State.
Centrally situated in Washington State, Yakima is just 140 miles from Seattle and only 204 miles from Spokane. A range of transportation options, including Interstate 82, Yakima Public Transit and the Yakima Regional Airport serve Yakima.
At one time, agriculture, including the processing, and marketing of fruit and vegetables, drove the economy of Yakima. Today, Yakima’s economy is more diversified and includes a burgeoning wine industry. Yakima has recast itself as a tourist destination with strategic investments in downtown sidewalks, lighting and landscaping; local businesses featuring regional produce and wines are returning to the downtown area.
